We hope this newsletter finds you well and having enjoyed a good Summer.
Despite the uncertain climate, both politically and atmospherically here’s to a good Autumn for us all.
So here is what’s been happening and what is happening in the coming weeks…
We are thrilled to be able to share some new music with you.
‘Country Darkness Vol.1’, our first new recordings for 2 years, will be officially released on October 18th by Fretsore Records and is…
The 4-track set is comprised of our re-interpretation of the country and country-soul songs of Elvis Costello, in collaboration with the great Steve Nieve.
The recordings also feature Colin Elliott, Shez Sheridan and Dean Beresford (from the Richard Hawley band) with whom we made our 2nd album ‘The Reconciliation’
‘Country Darkness Vol.1’ was produced by Colin Elliot (Richard Hawley, Jarvis Cocker, Duane Eddy) and MWK, and will be available on 12” inch vinyl including a free download code. As always, it comes with stunning artwork by Jared Swafford, who has designed all previous MDC sleeves.
All pre-ordered copies will be signed and personalised.
You can read a little more about the EP and our thoughts on it, over at folkradio.co.uk
A new record means a new video (or even two) So, here are a few stills from our forthcoming video for the song Heart Shaped Bruise.
It was filmed in the Yorkshire village of Oakworth (yes, The Railway Children, that Oakworth!)
We once again worked with director Nick Small, who made the videos for No Heart In This Heartache and Going Back To Memphis. It will be on-line in early October.
As you can see, it features a very special “extra”
As ever, thanks to everyone who come to see us over the summer, at our shows and festival appearances in Spain, Norway, and across the UK.
Here are a few photos from Belladrum Festival in The Highlands of Scotland in early August (thanks George Mackie).
We also filmed 3 songs while we were there, for BBC Alba / BBC Scotland, which you should be able to find on the BBC iPlayer or on BBC Alba generally.

We are busy in the studio for most of September, though we are escaping to play just one show, in Stafford:
Sat Sept 21
Eccleshall, Stafford – The Royal Oak
This will be an intimate, acoustic show that will see us trying out some new songs, showcasing a song or two from the forthcoming Country Darkness EP, paying a few requests we have had sent through recently, as well as some of our favourite choices from the back catalogue. Really looking forward to it, it’s going to be a chilled and varied night.
We will be back out touring again fully around Europe in October and November:
We are also playing a few select full band shows in the UK in December to celebrate the release of the new EP.
The upcoming UK shows are as follows:
Thurs Dec 12
Hebden Bridge – Trades Club
Weds Dec 18
Biddulph, Stoke – St Lawrence’s Church
Sunday Dec 22
Birmingham – Kitchen Garden Cafe
A London show will also be announced in the coming weeks.
Details of all shows, home and away, can be found on our website.
And don’t forget, if you want to see an MDC show near you, just let us know. Suggest a venue, or local promoter or even think about hosting it yourself? Send a message via the website or just email to; email@example.com and we’ll get in touch and work something out.
RIP DONNIE, NEAL and DANIEL
We were very saddened by the passing in recent weeks of Donnie Fritts, Neal Casal and Daniel Johnston. All 3 very different from each other musically but all were much admired in our house.
Donnie’s song We Had It All has been slated for MDC to cover for a long time and maybe now is the time!
Neal was someone we had toured with and been label mates with in the past and Daniel was just someone we admired from a distance.
There are posts about all these gentlemen on Michael’s personal Facebook page:
