Welcome to the July newsletter.
We hope this finds you well, or at least… surviving.
We are hanging in there. Just. The pots and pans have been flying and we are sick of the sight of each other but what’s new eh?
We need to get on the road, get out the house and get on a stage, but no prospect of that at the moment.
Still, we are trying to keep busy. We have some more new music soon, and an online event to share.
Steve has been running these since lockdown started and joined by various guests from around the globe.
We’ll be playing some songs from the Country Darkness series and an MDC song or two as well.
As a reminder to everyone, here are 3 songs, from the project, and their accompanying videos. Please enjoy again and do share. We want a few more folks to hear and see these. Thanks.
We’d also recommend you check this out too:
Each year for the past 20 years an annual Townes van Zandt International Festival takes place near Lake Como in Italy.
This years was cancelled for obvious reasons but the promoter Andrea Parodi has been asking previous performers to film a Townes song so as to bring the festival online.
Andrea asked Michael to play his song “Riding The Range”, and tell the story behind it. How it came about that Townes sang on the original and then later cut his own version.
This is the link to the episode which last for about 20 mins. Michael starts at 5 mins 30 seconds.
ON THE RECORD
Huge thanks to everyone who has bought the vinyl and the thousands who have streamed tracks from Country Darkness Vol 2. We have been really overwhelmed.
Different Finger, Still Too Soon To Know and Either Side Of The Same Town are now our most streamed songs on Spotify by some distance.
For signed and personalised vinyl that also comes with tour poster and postcard, please order direct from our site.
For the limited edition bundle offer of Vol. 1 + Vol. 2 + signed poster, go to our Bandcamp page.
We also have something new in store. In the age of Tweets, text messages, WhatsApp, and Messenger, who says we don’t capture the zeitgeist?
You can now buy ‘Country Darkness Postcards’ – which you can order in bundles of 5 or 10 over at the My Darling Clementine store.
THE DAILY PLANET
A lot of nice words been written in the past few weeks about Volume 2. Yes, you’re right, we shouldn’t believe everything we read in the papers, not these days eh! But we are pretty confident this ain’t fake news.
With lockdown easing a little we were able to get back in the studio in June and we have now recorded 4 songs for Country Darkness Vol 3. This will be the last EP in the series and will be released October. Again, on 12 inch vinyl and via all streaming services.
The full album, of all 12 songs from Vol 1, 2 and 3, will appear on one cd. Thanks for all who have asked. This is set for release in November. We just now need to work out what to call it! Any suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org
Keep well everyone, stay safe, stay positive. We know how hard things are just now. Come and join us join Sunday.
